Giva Ann Wilkerson, Program Manager, Communities of HEALing
Giva knows that with the support of caring and experienced individuals, healing is possible. She often refers to herself as a “natural big sister”, in that she believes nurturing and mentoring younger women to be her life’s purpose.
Giva has worked with women and youth the majority of her career, designing educational and leadership programs, as well as providing social and emotional counseling and trainings. She has also worked as a blogger and entertainment correspondent. When she is not working, you can find her volunteering with organizations serving underrepresented communities and victims of trauma. The causes closest to her heart include girls’ leadership, racial and reproductive justice and mental health awareness/care.
Giva is a trained sexual assault crisis counselor, mental health first aid worker and vinyasa yoga teacher. She is currently studying to become a trauma-informed counselor. Her greatest thrill is combining her love of teaching self-care and self-love with the mindful practice of yoga.
Giva holds master’s degrees in African American and African Diaspora Studies and Public Administration from Indiana University (Go Hoosiers!).
Giva’s favorite ice cream flavor is strawberry (vegan of course!).
