My Song About My Battle with an Eating Disorder

Francesca says, "Red tells the story of the darkest part of my eating disorder, when I was really struggling, and ends with the light; the start of my recovery. Today, I am still working to be 100% healthy. I think as human beings, each of us are in some way self-critical. I struggle the most to overcome relying on others and society for validation of who I should be, more specifically how I should look, rather than trusting myself.”

RED lyrics:

Mama told me long ago
You shine so bright let it show, let it show
The best part of you
Is the love in your heart don't let it go, don't let it go

But now colors of red cloud my eyes
And I drown in wine hoping it will hide
That I'm not fine with everything I've done
But these demons, they haven't won
Yet

I'm always walking on a tight rope
So close to falling off cause the risk of hurt feels like home
The power I feel when I'm weak
Is the strongest I've ever felt
Cause I'm in control, I'm in control, I'm in control

But now colors of red cloud my eyes
And I drown in wine hoping it will hide
That I'm not fine with everything I've done
But these demons, they haven't won
Yet

Now I think of the simple times
When I loved how I looked
My happy was love, that's all it took
Then I think of my mom
And that light she gave me used to shine so bright, shine so bright
I want it back, I'll have it back, I'll take it back, now.
