Rebecca Eyre

Senior Advisor

Rebecca Eyre joined Project HEAL in 2019 as Treatment Access Program Director, and within a year - against the backdrop of a global pandemic - she stepped into the Chief Executive Officer role. Being a licensed therapist that had treated eating disorders and trauma since 2011, she brings a clinical lens and a programmatic focus to her leadership of the organization.

Rebecca’s passion for ensuring that eating disorder healing is possible for everyone has personal roots. Growing up in a home with a mother and sisters who struggled with eating disorders, Rebecca has been surrounded by eating disorders throughout her life - which has resulted in both a deep understanding of how eating disorders operate and a deep desire to help those struggling find freedom.

Rebecca has a MA in Counseling Psychology (2012), preceded by a BA in Psychology (2006). Professionally, her experience ranges from eating disorder treatment settings to corporate philanthropy at Microsoft to academic fundraising to strategic marketing to comms at a startup. The unifying thread of Rebecca’s career is her sincere belief in human and systemic capacity for change.

Anchoring Rebecca’s passion for her work is her view that healing from an eating disorder is truly possible when someone has access to the resources, opportunities, and support they need. She has seen firsthand how many barriers stand in the way of healing for the vast majority of people who struggle with their relationship with food. While personal barriers are difficult for each individual to overcome, systemic barriers are formidable, unacceptable, and need our society’s urgent attention. The idea that anyone who was ready and motivated to recover but never could - simply because treatment was out of reach - is an idea that keeps Rebecca up at night.

As a cisgender, white, queer woman who is committed to understanding the intersections of privilege and oppression that she and each of us holds, Rebecca is striving to advance real change within the eating disorder field - amplifying those who have too long been ignored or excluded, partnering with and following the lead of marginalized individuals, and striving to expand the eating disorder field so that is both big enough and safe enough for everyone who needs it.

After four years of service as Project HEAL’s CEO, Rebecca is now a Senior Advisor at Project HEAL alongside her work in private practice at Rebecca J Eyre Therapy LLC. She is licensed in both New York state (013781) and Washington state (LH60478957), and currently lives in Brooklyn, NY with her partner Aims and their pups, George & Piper. Her favorite ice cream is salted caramel from Molly Moon’s in Seattle.
