Barriers to Healing for LGBTQ+ Individuals

On Thursday, October 8th, Madeline Brown, MS, RDN/LDN, CEDS, Eric Dorsa, Dr. Sylvia Romm, MD, MPH, and Carsen Rhys Beckwith, MSW will chat about the barriers to eating disorder healing for LGBTQ+ individuals.

Designed for clinicians, caregivers and community leaders, attendees will leave with tools and strategies to support the LGBTQ+ individuals with eating disorders in their lives.

Panelists

Madeline Brown (she/her) has been a Registered Dietitian since 2016. She has dedicated her career to working in the field of eating disorders and disordered eating, helping to improve her client's relationships with food and their bodies. As an LGBTQ+ provider, she loves working with this community and helping to challenge some of the uniquely ingrained notions, particularly around body image. While working in the telehealth field, she has served clients in 15+ states with just about every diagnosis and symptom related to eating disorders. She is both the owner of Madeline Brown Nutrition Counseling and, more recently, working with Nabi Health. Madeline provides pro bono and sliding scale placements through Project HEAL and volunteers with the Eating Disorder Coalition, advocating for expanded access to care and insurance coverage.

Carsen Rhys Beckwith, MSW (they/them) is a dedicated advocate for equity and social change, with over a decade of experience addressing health disparities in queer communities, reproductive justice, and organizational development. They are currently the Program Director at Project HEAL, where they lead a number of direct service, community care, and capacity building programs to break down barriers to eating disorder healing. They hold a BA in International Studies from American University and an MSW from Washington University, specializing in sexual health and violence prevention.
