    Letters of Appeal:

If your insurance says "no" to paying for something you need, like a doctor visit or medicine, you can write a letter of appeal. In the letter, you tell them why you think they should say "yes" instead. If your request for care is denied, use the templates below to submit an appeal.

Through awareness campaigns, it educates both policymakers and the public about the seriousness of eating disorders, while its research and policy efforts involve partnering with experts to promote evidence-based treatment. Notably, the organization helped pass the Anna Westin Legacy Act in 2016, expanding insurance coverage for eating disorder treatment, and continues to advocate for the inclusion of eating disorders in federal mental health policies.

    The Kennedy Forum

Founded in 2013 by Patrick J. Kennedy, the Kennedy Forum is a leading mental health advocacy organization dedicated to policy reform, parity enforcement, and stigma reduction.

The organization works to make sure mental health and substance use treatment is covered just like physical health care, as required by the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA). It pushes for stronger mental health laws at both the state and national level. The group also helps teach the public about mental health and works to reduce the stigma, encouraging open and honest conversations. It supports mental health-friendly rules in schools and workplaces. Some of its main programs include the Parity Registry, which helps people report unfair insurance denials; Parity Track, which checks if states are following mental health laws; and efforts to improve access to telehealth and the 988 mental health crisis hotline.
